Oil Massage a great tonic for body

Sesame oil is a tonic to body

Oil massage is a great tonic to your body especially in the winters. Ayurveda calls it “Abhyang” or full body massage. In ayurveda, it is considered as important as medicine. Your tiredness flies away and your brain feels stimulated.  During winter season, dryness increases in your body both from outside and inside. This dryness is also a great cause of gas formation in your stomach and intestine. Hard to believe for some, but body oil massage reduces gas formation to a great extent. “Vaat” or gas in your body is the primary cause of joint pain and pain in bones. Paralysis is result of increased “vaat” or gas in your body. So you get relief from these pains and diseases as well. Applying oil on your body also nourishes your muscles and other organs. It improves blood circulation in entire body. For elderly, full body oil massage is more important than medicine. It delays the signs of aging and strengthens the body. Oil massage is also a good way of avoiding bacterial infection.
Right time for full body massage is an hour before bath. Since it speeds up the blood circulation, we need to give some time to calm it down before bath.
Padabhyang” is foot massage. It is also called “drustiprasade” i.e. good for eyes. It is said in ayurveda that if one wants to keep healthy throughout the year, foot massage is the key. Particularly for those who feel tired as they wake up in the morning. Once you start doing it you will feel the difference within a week. Good sleep and you will wake up fresh.

Sesame oil massage in winters

Which oil to use?
There are so many choices in the market but the best oil which ayurveda prescribes is sesame oil or “Til Tel”. You should keep away of the oils with artificial fragrance. The word “Tel” has come out of “Til” indicating the importance of sesame oil. Other options are mustard oil , coconut oil or herbal oils. Herbal oils are not something extracted from herbs but base oil is selected in which herbal properties are added by ayurvedic methods.
